Instead it has an HR manager

We've been "debating" the presence of union reps in Star Trek. I say debating because I am a lone voice asserting that the Enterpise-D would have union reps, you're all claiming that Trek is magical space communism where unions are no longer required.

Actually this has real world implications, so let's get into it.

But before we begin...

Firstly - this is basically a discussion about TNG. OST is more of a straightforward naval vessel. Nu-Trek is something like a postgrad college department in space.

And TNG is where the arguments get made that Trek is space communism. Mostly by Picard, in a few lines asserting that the Federation is post-money, post-scarcity etc.

Secondly - sure the Enterprise is crewed by a military elite, and the military does not have unions. But that in itself rather mitigates against the idea that Trek is space…
