I hate awards

There’s no good reason to give books awards. Everyone’s reading paths are very different. The idea there’s a “best book” in a given year is clearly nonsense.

But there are plenty of bad reasons to give awards. Writers have egos, we liked to be stroked.

And people LOVE the drama of an award. They make for better stories than the books.

So as we’re heading into Hugo Controversy Season again, today’s video on the Science Fiction channel is a guide to all the major controversies to beset the Hugos over the decades.

And some more serious problems facing the Hugos in the wake of the Chengdu 2023 WorldCon.
